purpleheart?

Hi quite new to this form. Just picked up a purpleheart board has a nice grain and was fairly inexspensive. Was just wondering if anyone here has used this in your crafting of a longbow? I will be starting on one shortly. Have found out already that is is very hard and dulls tools fast anyone that has worked with  wood have any comments and advice.

I have used it with good luck. I have always backed mine with bamboo.  Several of the guys with more experience say it will fret if stressed to much, so a little wider and longer might be in order.  Justin

Hi,
I use it as a middle layer. Usually hickory backed, with cherry or walnut belly wood. ELB style. Keep it long.

i just made one maple-backed PH, 65" ntn, 36#@26", no frets, no set (glued up w/ 1/2" of reflex); will post pics soon as finish is dry!
