Would you back it?
« on: January 09, 2015, 11:09:26 pm »
Making a Hickory backed maple - glued in some D/R.  Pretty much pyramid front profile.  After cutting it out and looking over the limbs, I noticed this area with some run out.  It is about 4" in length (first picture) and is in the limb right at the "10" mark of the second pic.  I did not originally plan on backing this bow, but what you think?  If I do back it I would use deer rawhide.

Forgot - the hickory is just over 1/8 thick.

Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

That run out is on the maple I take it....?  If so just leave it.  Backing won;t help unless its the back and not the belly.

I would probably leave it but that's just me. Make sure the corners are rounded and really smooth, I've had worse runouts.

Personally I'd trap the hickory more if I were you.
