Shoot arrow question about twigs

Hello folks,
New to making arrows outta shoots. I got a Green Ash in my backyard with some second year shoots I'm thinking of cutting but they got twigs and small branches coming of from them. Can they be used?

I don't think I've used shoots with branches that big but they should work fine. I'd sand the "stumps" down flush and super glue them then continue on. Keep an eye on where the knots are just to be safe.

I have been using something called a "River Ash" that grows on the banks of a nearby river.  It is hollow and lightweight but it seems to work OK.  The knots can be smoothed off and used as long as there isn't too sharp a bend at the knots.  I wind up treating it a lot like bamboo with inserts at both ends to stiffen it up.
