Wonky got a makeover
« on: October 05, 2014, 12:14:35 pm »
I posted this osage recurve a couple of weeks ago, but have since fallen in love with it.  I really thought of it as an ugly duckling because of the way the limbs exited the handle at different angles.  The whoopty-doo into severe reflex on the top limb right at the handle and the stepped down lower limb combined to make it a challenge to tiller.  It looks a little odd, but it is an above average performer.  The limbs are one and a quarter wide at their widest point so a full width Alabama timber rattler would have overwhelmed the limbs.  I split the snake skin down the middle and applied half to each limb.  It worked out okay and is a nice trick to have in your tool box if you are faced with having a snake skin whose pattern is too wide for your bow limbs.  Wonky is 17 oz with a non bending handle, 57" nock to nock, drawing 47lbs. at 27".  I lost count on the coats of tru-oil.  This will be my hunting bow this year.
