My first Yew ELB.....

We have my first successful Yew self bow!............... all be it with a spliced handle!
I have left this bow a little stiff in the handle, with good reason and tillered accordingly. It looks a little Victorian I think!
The bow is 74" NtN and has come in at 40lb @ 28" a little lower than I wanted but it is a beatiful bow to shoot! It is so smooth to shoot and has some great cast, the bow has even draw wieght right from the get go. I am more than happy, as this came from a billet that was supposed to be belly laminations! I am quite chuffed with myself. Bow has a fully crowned back, which I think is the key in my ELB's.

Yeah, what pat B said. Looks to have warbow shape, nicely rounded and plump.
Nice tiller, you could prob' draw it to the full length of that arrow >:D
Nice tidy nocks too, not too big :) Is the lower one "white" Waterbufflo horn? It doesn't show up in the pics.

Wow, nice work on that yew Mick. You wasted no time on that build!!  :o I guess you were possessed by that billet.. I am happy it provided more than belly lams for you.

Hi guy's,

Del, yes I can draw it back a bit more.......... just working up to it....... :laugh: i have attached some photos of the other nock, it is red deer antler. I like more workmanlike nocks not big fancy ones. Gone for a ying and yang theme with this bow. Black buffalo horn on top and white deer antler for the bottom...... Plus thats  all I had laying around the workshop....lol. Waiting for some horn nocks to come...........

Wizard, the bow has a full back of sapwood, there is just not a big contrast between the two with this billet.......Maybe Carson who I got this billet from, could elaborate on this. I think it was older piece of wood. I have added a couple of pics to show this......

Pat B, Yes it does look bigger than 40lb........but it's not! lol. It is what it is, what can i say. It is just a soft piece of yew I guess........ ;)
