My new Osage hatchet handle!

Well I was working on a bow today and I had to do a little heat bending. While it was cooling, I started to remove the bark on a fresh cut stave and broke the handle on my hatchet. I've had it for about 10 years and the handle was one of those plastic/fiberglass things. So I decided to make a handle instead of buy one. Here was the results! Patrick.

Thanks guy's, I just grabbed a cut off piece and started hacking at it. But you would be glad to know it has a single ring on both sides pretty much.

  Vertical in line with the orientation of the blade. The handle shown appears to have the grain running across. The sides of the handle should look like a bow belly from a conventional stave.
 Most commercial handles only loosely adhere to this feature.
 By "grain" I  am just talking about the orientation of the growth rings.

Just had to take a second look.     more strength that way
