Could this be real?
« on: April 29, 2014, 09:45:26 pm »
My friend gave me this. He got it from a friend that is a bug man. He was spraying under a house and found it. Think it's real?
Sorry if I post in the wrong place.
Did the Native Americans think about all this that much or just do it?

I don't think so, the patina doesn't look right to me.

A top shot would be nice. There is usually some remnant of pecking on an axe.
I don't see any. A close up of the bit and grove would help.
Not sure this is the correct forum? The grove does look machine ground but I have seen many abo pieces that amaze me too.

The shape is what I find odd about it. I have never seen one that is curved on one side and straight on the other, mimicking the shape of a modern axe (almost like a fireman's axe). But then again, I haven't been all over the US. Where do you reckon it is from?

Scottski - I'm in Arkansas too. If you want me to find the nearest archeological research station to you, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you contact information for the nearest one to you (be sure and give me a general area or city). Interesting!

Cool more Arkansans, Scottski I have a grooved axe as well but it has a more of a rectangular overall shape with a more rounded pecked groove I will see if I can get a picture of it up this weekend.  What part of Arkansas are you from Dalton Knapper?

I have several with traditional form but here's an odd one I found in South Carolina years ago. Grooved all the way around in the middle, it has a chisel like front edge and the back end comes to a dull point with 4 rough edges. Rick B
