Osage Discovered in New Zealand
« on: March 11, 2014, 03:42:48 am »
How many staves you think I can get from these babies?  8)

Alright, maybe not many yet, but I'm pretty happy some of my seeds finally germinated. It's been about 5 weeks. Apparently 50% germination at 6 weeks is standard, so I'm hoping for a few more.

That must have been fun to get through NZ customs. You guys are pretty strict on your foreign plant and seed imports are you not?

Haha Rob, if I'm ever looking up at one and decide it needs to come down, I'll definitely make sure you get a share of the haul.

The seeds came from a guy at the other end of the country who has a dozen mature trees or something. They were planted at least 30 years ago (they are big ones apparently), so maybe they came through when customs was a little less on top of things. I haven't heard of any other confirmed trees in the country.

Lucky you! You now have the best of both worlds. Monster rainbow trout and osage!
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.
