Starting to finish a couple...Ash & Mulberry
« on: March 06, 2014, 08:59:38 pm »
I have started 8 bows since hunting season ended the first of the year...all are still alive except the erc I posted blown up a few weeks ago.  Here are the first two finished up.  I made these for my two kids.  Neither has taken a strong interest in bows - but I figured someday they might appreciate having something made by the old man!  And who knows maybe they will even shoot them a bit.

1st one  - Mulberry - 59" ttt, around 40# at 24", rawhide backed, stained with a water based brown and black leather dye. Raised a splinter during tillering thus the raw hide and wraps - glad I did it as I like the way the raw hide stained.  This one took a little set.

Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

And here is the second one... Green Ash - 62" ttt, 40# @ 23",  no backing toasted the belly good.  Stained the belly grain with a black leather dye watered down and then with a "wine" rit stain.  Finish is tru-oil.  Leather overlays on the tips.

Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

Good work Mitch! You out a mean tiller on both.

I like the way you dressed them up, good looking finishes on both as well as fine tiller. When the kids decide to put them to use they will be the envy of all their friends.  :)
