Which wood to back sassafras lumber bow?
« on: February 04, 2014, 10:36:08 pm »
I have some woodworker friends with a really nice sassafras board and I think it would make 3-4 nice bows blanks. I definitely want to back the bows with another wood, and besides hickory, can anyone offer any other good wood choices?

you might want to consider maple. I read a thread recently about the virtues of maple as a backing, but cannot seem to find it. I have better luck searching the old threads with a google search rather than the search bar.

maple back site:primitivearcher.com  will narrow it down pretty good for you

Maple, I use it a lot and prefer it over hickory, it is an outstanding backing and selfbow, Bub
