Bowyer's 1st Christmas
« on: December 25, 2013, 07:38:17 pm »
Made my 1st bow at this year's TN Classic.  Made my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Christmas presents.  They are a beginner's effort, but were still a hit.  This bow-making stuff is addictive...  All three are hickory board bows:  56#@28, 42#@27, and 34#@25.  My attempt at red oak blew up.

Merry Christmas everybody!

You did a nice job on those bows, they appear to be bending nicely.

Good work there Loope!! Keep it up. It is very addictive for sure. Red oak makes a great bow, but boards can be a little finicky. Anyway, merry 1rst christmas to ya.

I thought, "these pictures will only take a minute, and I am only going onto the deck."  Barefoot in a light frost in East TN will make you hurry up the photos.

Here are some more pics and stats.  The reddish brown is 56#@28, 66" ntn, 2" wide, purpleheart overlay, and offset handle.  The natural hickory is 42#@27", 63" ntn, 2" wide, cocobolo overlay, and straight handle.  The green (wife's favorite color) is 34#@25, 59" ntn, 1.5" wide, bocote overlay, and offset handle.

I made the reddish brown bow first.  Next came the green bow with a double nock for a stringer.  The last bow was the natural hickory.  I think you can see my progression, at least in better looking nocks.  Unfortunately, I don't have any full draw pics.

Fine looking bows, love that nock detail.
Maybe round off those sharp edges/corners a tad more ?
