Walnut bow popped a splinter
« on: October 10, 2013, 09:38:28 pm »
Well today the walnut bow I posted back in July decided to pop a splinter on me :-\ I was having so much fun shooting it it was definetly my favorite to shoot I had an easy 1000 arrows through it but hey guess it happens. I'll probably patch it in the future and never shoot it again.

No, it's just plain walnut sap wood.

brace it gently, put good woodglue under the lifts, use a toothpick to get glue deep, then unbrace and wrap with sinew across both splinters.. it will be just fine!  providing the tiller is good on it.

I will probably try and repair it like twistedlimbs explained but even if it works it will still become a dust collector on my wall .... My oldest bow on my wall was successfully reapaired with rawhide it shoots fine but I still don't trust it It's just a dust collector like this one will be

I think we all do lol some might wonder why we don't just burn them but to me it's hard to throw something I invested lots of time and work into away

Yea, I've got a half a dozen in my stave pile that I hope to fine a match for a two piece bow some day.
