white oak design help
« on: July 30, 2013, 11:05:20 am »
Hey guys I've only worked with hickory in the past and have just cut an white oak tree for some new bows. After I split it I took the bark off. I put them in a hot and humid place not by choice but the only place I had at the time anyhow I got alot of checks of course. I have a few staves that are ok. And was wondering about design. I definitely plan on heat treating. And was wondering width of limbs and lenght. My draw length is 29 1/2" . Any suggestions would help

Since you're planning to heat treat, use the same dimensions for your white oak as you used for the hickory.  They are quite comparable in properties.  Josh
