Bows of Babylon

This picture is from Ishtars Gate, an original gate of the city of Babylon, ( modern day Iraq ), excavated in 1902 and dated by archeologists at 600BC , but probably older.
So the pic shows an example of bows of this era in the middle east.....for anyone interested

Very cool. I wonder if it is depicting the bows being held in bow holsters? I know those were pretty common in some places. Looks like some fancy quivers too.

Cool.....ishtars gate is awesome...I'd love to see that in person,n I wouldn't have to go to Iraq to see it either as its been reconstructed and in a museum in Berlin,Germany ....saw it on some history channel show....

You think those bows have setback handles that are hidden? I would love to shoot the breeze with one of those bowyers.

Looks to me like they're ready to flee,fight or fortify.Lot of pizazzz on those bows.

they look to me very similar to the asian horn and sinew bows that where where very reflexed and able to be strung for long periods and as TMK says they look like they may be in bow quivers almost identical to the ones the chinese used....cant see the handles propelrly......the quivers seem to cover the whole arrows  including the feathers. . They do look like functional bows though that the artists have depicted accurately
