tomahawk+new knife
« on: May 19, 2013, 04:06:07 pm »
so my brother asked me to make him a tomahawk last weekend .so i told him i could see what i can do. after knapping the obsidian  head it ended up smaller then intended but still turned out well.  the handle was a branch that i found on the wood line not sure what type of wood it is maybe oak .i ground sum small grooves in the handle then fire chard them sanded all smooth tried to make obsidian inlays but it did not turn out the way i wanted it to. it still turned out nice. snake skin handle rap. got about 7 light coats of sum kind of spray can clear coat  that i had laying around .  my brother fell in love with it be for it was ever done . the head is held in with pine pitch.

Nice work! Your brother is lucky to get something like that

OK so I'm working hard at getting me sum primitive gear for the upcoming bow season. so far got my quiver ready one Cain arrow and sum points .and just worked a preform that was sent with the obsidian . i just shaped it to a small blade went and found me a small limb off of a tree that was cut sum months ago and this is what i ended up with .

Looking good.  One of the points I have is going to soon be a knife.  Im going to cut into the wood and use some pine pitch glue to hold it then ill add a hemp wrap and then add more pitch to hold it in place. However the shape I made the blade it will be left handed.  :o SS
