How's the tiller look? - sinew backed osage
« on: March 13, 2013, 05:45:16 pm »
I consider this stage of bowyering to be my weakest.  That is, going from 18 to 28 inches.  I seem to have a harder time picking out flaws than others I have worked with.  Perhaps that will come with experience.  This bow is currently 58# at 28, which is below my 60# goal but the tiller is more important than a few extra pounds.  I can always consider trimming off an inch later.  Any feedback is much appreciated!

BTW that's my first sinew bowstring you see hanging in the video.  :)

thanks!

it does seem to be bending more, however, id say that you should flip it over and show us the other side in a similar video, maybe center the camera up with the tiller tree, and do both sides in the video

Outer thirds are slightly stiff and a lil more so on the left limb....but this could be desirable for some...as long as you narrow the last third down some more ?... i don't know..I'm no expert

Id prob start shooting it with the left limb as bottom and see how it looks in the hand versus the tree...maybe show us how it looks drawn in the hand

In the video it looks like the left outer limb is pretty stiff but I think the shadow is making it look stiffer than what it really is. It looks pretty good in your pic with the stiff limb on bottom. Put about 50 arrows thru it and then recheck it. If it hasnt changed any I'd call it good.
