questions on antler tips

first try on this tried the search not sure how to find the right one on there what glues and best way to clamp antler tip overlays onto a bows tip i am working on at the moment?

I use gel superglue for antler tip overlays. And I use a spring clamp to clamp them in place until the glue fully cures.

Gel superglues are great for this job, so are the two part epoxies.  If a spring clamp slips off the irregular surfaces, you can use rubber bands.  Use enough glue so that you have plenty of "squeeze-out" and clamp just firmly enough to get a close fit without starving out the glue joint.

last year we collected several like 30 pairs of antlers that were almost to small to use for anything other than ear rings found one that was just about right and seems it will fit on the red oak i am starting so i was making sure.

You can laminate small pieces together to get a nice sized overlay.A little work but it still can be done.

I have used superglue but have switched to tb3 for no reason in particular...and i use spring clamps

I use gel super glue, 2ton epoxy or TBIII for tip overlays. Rubber bands are the best clamp for tip overlays I've ever used. I glues a set on this afternoon.    With some antler there is a pithy area that can cause problems as it will rob the glue joint of glue. If you soak that pithy part with thin super glue first, let it cure and sand smooth it will work better.

I learn something new everyday on this site.  Rubber bands--why didn't I think of that.  I fight and struggle making build up platforms so my spring clamps don't slide off.  geezes

Bicycle inner tubes sliced into strips are infinitely useful in the shop.  I recently glued chairlegs back together after they had loosened and used the big rubber straps to do it.  Much cheaper than big bar clamps and they really shine on irregularly shaped objects.

Guess i never thought of using rubber bands before. I usualy use black electrical tape even used tape instead of clamps on the only laminated bow i ever made.

Super glue and spring clamps,my clamps have soft rubber ends on them so I really don't have any trouble with the holding. I can see where a rubberband would work great especially if you need to move it around and that is always a problem around my shop.

   I've used super glue, TB 111 it thats all I have but mainly use epoxy and I also use rubber bands. I sand useing 60 or 80 grit bow tips and antler. EPOXY is a great filler and theres no better way of alineing over lays to tips than the rubber bands.
