white oak uses?
« on: January 08, 2013, 09:41:21 pm »
I have a large (8" x 5/4" x 10') straight grained quarter wasn't white oak board and I'm debating how to use it. I was originally thinking hickory backed white oak bows, but ive seen some people using white oak as backing (and that would make a LOT of backing. What do you guys think?

Depends on whether you have a hard time getting backings.....myself ,where I am at, it would be cut for backings.  :)
Debating is an intellectual exchange of differing views...with no winners.

I have used it for both with good success!!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

I just bought a nice wide board of white oak, and it turns out i got 3 2 inch staves for 15$ so im happy with that, i will be helping youngsters who want to get into archery either by making one for them or helping them make one. So far ive helped on get a molle design, which i hope to heat treat, and then maybe flip the tips a bit. so basically i am using it for self bows. however i +1 pappy's suggestion.
