At least 1 hp, 1 1/2 would be better. Grizzly makes nice tools.

I have a 14", 1hp Grizzly and I love it. Grizzlys are made in Korea I think but are very well made and easy to get parts and service from Grizzly.  They may even have an outlet in GB.

I have a 14" Ridged 1 hp. Do your self a favor and buy a good blade. The ones from big box stores are garbage. Even a small saw with a good blade will out perform a big one with a cheap blade. My saw with a 5/8, 3tpi quality blade easily cuts though 5" of osage. It all in the blade and having guides and bearings properly set up.

I recommend a 3/4" blade with 3 tpi for cutting thick wood.

I also have a ridgid 14" 1hp and a 9" Craftsman.....they both work very good.  Even my little Craftsman has done a lot of cutting I didn't think it could do.
Happy hunting to all!

I'd never buy a Rigid again. They are made from Pot metal in China and I've had to replace four parts that just broke.
