Need knife handle help
« on: December 20, 2012, 04:32:01 pm »
This was my old trapping knife. I chopped hundreds of stakes with it and broke handle after handle. I want to put a nice looking handle on it that won't break when I chop a 4 inch log in half with it. Any ideas on how or what to do. Think over the years it has had 5 or 6 replacements. It has been a good blade and thought it would put it back in service.

look up wrapped micarta handles on youtube. I haven't tried them but they look bullet proof.

Ok, just how did you knap that one?!?!

Ok, I have heard that there is a wood that makes fairly decent knife handles, but it's hard to find...I have NEVER seen one of these trees in South Dakota.  Rumour has it that it makes a bow, too.  It starts yellow as coyote pee in snow, but turns a rich orange-brown in the sun.  It's called "osage orange".  Look it up on the computer, maybe you can find someone that can sell you some!

Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
