Warning!!!........deer antler
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:13:46 pm »
This should go without saying........don't grind deer antler without a respirator or at least a mask.  Will give nasty sinus infection.  Don't ask me how I know.
Happy hunting to all!

I think we all figure that one out after the fact.  Some of us never learn.  I pretty much have sinus problems almost all year.  I feel your pain.

I am sort of hard headed and it took a while for me to get it through my head - all workshop,  fine particle dust makes you feel like !#^^%* when you breathe it!  I am trying to get in the habit of masking up and ventilating more whenever I turn on the power tools.  If you read up on the different species of wood that we are all sanding and grinding on, about half of them cause all sorts of respiratory distress.  Add to that, the bone, antler, horn, and the man made stuff that is taboo here,  and you got a recipe for serious lung troubles.   A few pennies spent on a dust mask seems a good investment.

Should but don't,that's why my shop is outside.Love the smell of bone grinding/feathers burning/pitch boiling/oil cooking under the heat gun/
smoke from the fire/brain tanning slurry and punk smoke. With out those
smells I wouldn't feel like I was at home.  ;) ;D ;D It's a little hot in the summer and cold in the winter but well worth it. ;) ;D
