How do you haft points?

It may seem like a stupid question but i am really not sure.
How deep/wide do you cut into the shaft
How do you do the sinew wrap(to make the point stay on)
Do you glue before or after sinew wrap,
A haft along would be great,
Thanks

The way I cut the notch into the shaft depends on the point type. I always cut the notch to fit the point. I dip the notch in hide glue and put the point in the notch and adjust it untill it is true. Then I sometimes put pine pitch glue on the point and melt it into the notch to fill in any gaps and to smooth the transition from point to shaft. I then dip my finger in the hide glue and size the shaft before I start wrapping on the sinew.

There are many ways to haft a point but this is how I do it.
Hope this helps.

Almost forgot, I finish up with a coat of hide glue over the sinew wrap.

I do it about the same as stated above minus the hide glue. I prefer to use pine pitch to glue the point to the shaft then I chew a long piece of back sinew and proceed to wrap the point making sure to get the shaft behind the point wrapped at least a half inch behind the point for strength. As the sinew dries it shrinks. If you want it to be waterproof as I usually do for all weather hunting purposes. Put a little tru oil on your finger and apply it to the sinew. And there you have it
Hope this helps
