How do I prepare carp skin?
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:27:54 pm »
I was lucky enough to have today off and got to shoot a couple of carp.  How do I prepare the skin so that I can use them as backing on bows?  Do I just nail them up and dry?  Do I need to treat the skins with anything before I dry it?  Also, has anyone every put carp skins on a bow with the scales intact?  I know this would be alot of weight on the limbs, and I did not know if it would affect the performance of a bow.

Thanks for the help.

Patches, I believe there is a "carp skin along" in the "How To" section by Timo.  Lots of good info about carp skins.

I just put mine in a jar of dish soap for a week or so after you flesh them.  Give em a good rinse and lay them onto whatever surface they are going to go on and let it dry overnight.
