wed nite bowmaking
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:10:26 am »
as many of you know
we have a small group that gets together on wed nites
spend the early part of the evening shooting and then go in to whittle on osage

had the privilege of two pa members coming by this past wed
gun doc and occupant showed up to shoot bows
gun doc is shooting his "mystery" wood bow-likely hickory
occupant is shooting a red elm bow

nice selection of selfbows to shoot-
but darn those guys most of theirs were well over the 50# mark so getting a full draw for me wasnt possible
didnt stop me from trying to shoot em tho....

wanna do a shout out to gun doc
we sat down with some obsidian and he really helped me along with my knapping
(at this point i really shouldnt refer to em as skills...)
first time ive had the chance to sit down with someone

THANKS gun doc!

Is that a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon I see. Man, I haven't had a blue since elementary school.
Nice that you guys get together. My only archery buddy is an hour away.

I missunderstood the title and thought it meant 'Wedding Nite bowmaking'.
I thought 'now that bow making addiction is becoming a serious problem!' ;)

Nice shot of two bows at FD :)

Sounds like a lot of fun.  Would love to have something like that going on around the Portland area here.
"The bow is the old first lyre,
the mono chord, the initial rune of fine art
The humanities grew out from archery as a flower from a seed
No sooner did the soft, sweet note of the bow-string charm the ear of genius than music was born, and from music came poetry and painting and..." Maurice Thompso

Looks like a great time sadiejane! PBR now thats what im talking about! Some nice bows there too!

CMB are you aware of the rose city bowyers? They get together like that and shoot and work on bows arrows and flintknapping through out the year.

Josh
my friends think my shops a mess, my wife thinks I have too much bow wood, my neighbors think im redneck white trash and they may all be right on the money!!

CMB and Steelslinger, PM me and I can get you hooked up to a group of fellow primitive archers in the Portland area if you are interested.

Thanks Sadie!  It is always a pleasure to stop in and visit with you folks.  As far as the knapping goes, I will probably just teach you a bunch of stuff that somebody who knows what they're doing will have to unteach!  And uhh, where's that first point?   ;)   Josh
yeah well, i aint ready to show anybody anything ive done so far...but i will say there aint nothing to undo here. as you witnessed wed nite, things fell together  flaking rock like i have never been able to do so far. its only gotta get better from here. peace brother!
