Rounding Copper
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:16:14 am »
I have a couple of pieces of copper 'rod' for some 'boppers' (5/8" and 7/8" dia). Do I just take a file and round one end into a 'dome' shape?
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

I've known knappers that have done both. Do what you are used to. I like a round end on my solid & boppers. I also have a squared end for small conjested platforms I wouldent file it in I'd use a grinder, its quicker.

My grinder died :-[
So it will have to be shaped the hard way. ;)

Thanks

I bought a copper hammer to sprawl out big stuff and in a day it was all round.

I use a 2" x3" solid copper to spall. It works great, but I prefer to spall with stone. The spalls I produce with stone are wider than those with copper. At least with my style they sre.
