hey guys, i was wondering if there are any finishes you can apply to a rawhide backing to pretty it up a bit...would wood stain be a good option?

I just finished a Rawhide backed hackberry...I used Miniwax dark ebony stain on the rawhide...I applied the stain and let it dry..then applied a coat of Helmsman Spar urethane..Let that dry and then buffed off with 000 steel wool.It took the stain off the high spots all over the backing and gave the backing a cool camo look.

Rawhide backing can be stained, died, drawn on or other decorative coverings added over it.

White dried rawhide makes a very good canvas if you are into painting stuff on your bows
