Intro and questions...
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:27:36 pm »
Hi everyone!
I just want to give a brief intro of me and my bow!

I am live the Chicago IL area and have returned to archery after a long absence, about 20 years to be exact!
Formerly a compound user, I have been indoctrinated by my friend who is a bowyer himself into primitive archery.
I am a target shooter primarily and can't wait to explore the boards here and meet you all!

My bow, made by Johnny Beecroft in TX, my image is too large to attach right now.
It is Osage Orange with horn tips and a rattlesnake back.
The tips are recurved about 5" at each end.
The bow is 72" long has a #40 draw and 29" draw length.

One question I have that maybe I can get an answer to is who would have used a bow of this style and size??
Most primitive bows I have shot are shorter than this, sometimes by 12".

Thanks!
Steve aka Yod9

Welcome Steve!  We have a few members in the Chi-town area.
In the haydays of traditional archery, in the '30 and "40(I figured you are old enough to know which century!  ;D ), bows like this were quite common. Maybe not quite that long(68")but similar otherwise.

Welcome!!

The bow is 72" long has a #40 draw and 29" draw length.

I bet that is a nice smooth shooting bow!!
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Me and hobow are chi-town boys and have been talking about getting together when it gets warmer.

Jeff is thick skinned. He can take it.  ;)   Apparently not thick enough for cold!  ::)

Yes it is quite a smooth shooter.
Though I am still working on my technique, need to work on consistency.
My goal is 12" target 3 times @ 20 yards.

Thanks to my wife (who inquired about smaller bows) I am thinking about getting a Korean horsebow as well!

Nice to meet everyone!
