sap rot in yew
« on: January 20, 2012, 08:24:47 am »
hi all,
a friend of mine who is head forester on a large estate ,has just given me permission to choose some yew ,which has been felled.and left in a heap for about 18 months ,so i hot footed over there yesterday and collected  a sample 72 ins.long straight as a gun barrel 4ins ,in diam, clean as a whistle one side a few knots the otherside ,split it and found what i think is a touch of sap rot between the heart wood and sap,is there any thing i can do to to prevent the rot from spreading
cheers Brian

Get the stave(s) in the dry. Fungi needs moisture to live and grow. Remove the sapwood and build a bow from the heartwood.
