Flake over grind. Not my cup of tea but it doesn't waste much rock and produces art. Jesse and Curt(piper) could probably explain the process better than I. From what I understand it's an efficient use of rock and produces exquisite pieces, but I like the idea of starting from a spall and going to a point. If I had some rare, perdy stuff, I might consider it. The guys that do it certainly produce results!

Interesting looking specimen.

Leapingbear, does cutting it allow you to get less waste?

yes it does lombard. very difficult to spall a piece like this efficiently. youd never get what you can get with a rock saw. anyway i spalled a few pieces of this and started a point and knife. after the third spall the sound got dull. two fractures through the rock let go. actually worked out well . if i can find a saw i'll cut the two bigger chunks. or wait untill someone i know gets a saw =)

That rock will be prettier and glassy heat treated and then slice it with a saw. You'll crumble most of it when you hit the little crackes. You can pressure flake through them when it is sliced thin.

I was wondering how it would knap.  I picked up a piece last year but it didn't work so well, seemed too soft for proper knapping so I quit working on it

I like knapping Mook. That is if it isn't cracked too bad. Nice piece you have there.
