thanks much guys
Jeff- i think winged elm is a bit harder than the other elms and i think makes a slightly better bow but it may just be the ones i have gotten in my area. the winged elms also seem to get way more knots and twisted compared to the others...but again it may have just been the one si was cutting

Ryan,
Gorgeous bow and beautiful tiller. There is definitely a signature to your bows, they are very unmistakable, I like them!

Slippery elm is also very hard and dense.I like it because it 's usually easier to find fairly straight slippery. But be warned,it is very difficult to split, although worth the effort,so stick to smaller trees.God Bless

A man after my own heart!
I've had the pleasure of building several bows from winged elm,Great bow wood, most has some character to it,but get her to lay with a string and ya got yourself a good one.
Nice job!

very nice bow, is winged elm a specific species of elm or just the way it grows?

thanks much guys for the kind words
dragonman- Winged elm is a specific species of elm. some people call it cork elm. it will have two strips of corkish material running up and down the limbs.
