I love my .17 hmr, but it is a little loud for shooting all the ringneck doves in the back yard.  O:)

i wouldnt know from personal experience,  O:) but i know that a beer can works well for a .22, just have to make a rig out of plumbing parts to hold it in place on a piece of pvc that slips over your barrel.  ;D

Someone should make a tutorial on how to make different types of silencers,....my big bore guns are real loud  :o :o
