1st Bow 2 Questions

  This is my first attempt at a bow It's a board bow of red oak. It's 70" ntn. 1st question is tiller help. Is it too stiff mid limb to tip? 2nd. Is it too late to back at this point? If not, is drywall tape and Tite-bond an option? Please be as critical as possable

I think the tiller looks good so far. I usually long string tiller out to 10 inches of string movement. I check weight and when I get target weight at that distance or may be 5# over I string it up. Not sure but the right limb appears stiffer. "If not, is drywall tape and Tite-bond an option?" Not for me. I prefer linen, silk or burlap. Much more info on my site. Jawge

looks the right limb is a little stiff near the handle dont know about drywall tape

the tiller looks pretty good to me....get it to the draw length/weight you need and loose the drywall tape....doesn't add anything that other than protection...and for the money, canvas, cotton, silk or even brown paper bag will look better and add the same amount of protection from splintering...jmo

Drywall tape is never an option....not here anyway   Definitely not too late to back it though.  Good luck on it, you've got a good start.

drywall tape  works, but ugly. burlap looks really good, especially with oak

Jawge. TY I have 9" of string movement but have to get a scale to any farther. I think I'll do the burlap and get the scale this weekend if I have time between plumbing calls   

Bryan.  thought it did to. after I get it backed and start the tillering again, we'll see what it looks like. I hope to have another pic of a front and back sides.

Well I went out and got 2 yards of burlap today. That's alot of cloth If this turns out good I'll have enough for 100 more bows ;DWell maybe not 100 but at least a few more The next thing is to get a scale and find out how to make a string so I can brace it when it gets to that point.
