What is the root burl that makes the ball part of the war club? How exactly do you make these clubs? I think I heard you had to use a tree that is hanging over a river or body of water im not sure.

To make a uniform ball headed wood war club you need some 8 or 12 quarter air dried wood. Lay it out and bandsaw the form. Refine with hand tools. For a primative ball headed club I usually look for a small dead tree that has some "lean" to it. Here in the NC mountains there are a lot of small locust trees that fit the bill. Stream beds would be a good place to look.  If the tree has life be aware that you need to spend some time with it and " ask" it to become a tool to protect your family before you end it's life. In any event put some tobacco down when you remove it. Have fun
