The only thing I can think of is you'll want to remove the scales from the snakeskin before you apply the finish.
There are literally hundreds of finishes and just as many ways to apply them. If you want to be primitive, use only natural materials (for example, beeswax, pine pitch, pine pitch mixed with fat, bear grease, cactus juice, shellac, deer fat, hide glue sprinkled with crushed mica crystals, natural stains, etc, etc.).
Build up thin layers and work in a warm place if possible.
