Pelt as rawhide back?

Crazy thing just happened.. My dogs treed a red squirrel for me in the back yard. They kept her there till i went and got my pellet rifle. I managed a headshot, but in the jaw, instead of the brain. The squirrel hit the ground and started her death dance. My oldest pup grabbed her and gave the final blow.. to the point, i skinned her with a razor blade and now i have a rawhide in the works. I'm bran spankin' new to bowcraft, but i'm wondering if I can use the dried hide to back a bow?

Splicing a bunch of small pieces would defeat the purpose of the backing. The backing should provide a continuous backing protection. Splicing 2 pieces at the handle is the standard option. That rawhide will make a good string.
