I had a bit of luck Saturday afternoon and was able to harvest an 80 lb. doe field dressed. Jesse (Leaping Bare) was hunting with me Saturday afternoon, and was gracious enough to divert this doe my direction by slightly shooting over her back! ;D This was the first deer I'd taken with this particular hhb bow, but the coolest part was the cane arrow I was using. My first deer with a cane arrow. I had cut these cane off the banks of a local river here in Clarksville, and with advice from folks here on PA was able to get them shooting well out of my bow. These cane arrows are tipped with Magna heads...maybe eventually I'll try flint. ;) The shot was around 16 yards, while hunting the food plot behind my house. The first three pic's are from Saturday morning from the stand I was hunting on a friend's farm (Keith). I saw three deer that morning, but the nearest was around 100 yards away...slightly out of my range. ;D

Nice Shot Greg! Looks like she did a number on your arrow! :)
-
Yeah Ryan, it broke off inside her. I might try straightening it and attaching a foreshaft... ;)
-
100 yards ? :o ??? Hmmm,, I bet if it had an apple pie strapped to it's back ? ::) ;)
-
Very nice Greg. I figured you'd score one in the evening and after you put all that work into those cane arrows you deserved it :-)
-
I've seen that one,very well done Greg. :)

-
Great job ! nice shot ....HAWK

Thanks Chad and Hawk, I found out yesterday when skinning and deboning her that the cane did not break. It only pulled off the broad head when the broadhead was raked from the shoulder arrow all the way back to the hindquarter...cutting as it went. And the cane didn't break! :o

Man oh man you Tenn. boys really do make it look easy. Looks like you work well under preasure. Congrats on a perfect shot and humane harvest. Glad the arrows worked out for you. Kenneth

Hey Kenneth, we've been using traditional equipment for a long time but it still doesn't always work out the way you like. I mentally talked my way through the shot in an attempt to keep focused. Not that easy sometimes for me... ;)
-
I know what you mean, when I talked my self thru my shot I should have just gone pure instinctive. L.O.L. Again congrats. Kenneth

I'm going to go out and give them another try this afternoon, I found some killer sign of them feeding on white oak acorns yesterday when scouting... ;)
