Title: Some big game arrows for '08
Post by: Kegan on September 14, 2008, 04:03:14 pm
I got some time while the finish was drying on a bow I'm working on, so I finally got around to fixing up my last few trade point arrows.

I was going to have to use the Zwickey arrows for deer and turkey hutning this year, but I really, really didin't want to. They're a good head, but don't seem to fit with the Osage bow I'd be using for the most part. But my trade points kept falling off (the glue and thread would break and they would fall off). Then I tried something new- using a .375 casing as a "ferrule". No glue, no rivet, but they're in there TIGHT. I smashed them tightly in the vice. With the slight taper of the tangs, they hold well. I'm veyr pleased, these are the toughest, best performing trade point arrows I've made. The blades themselves are 2.5" long and 1" wide, not sure of weight. They all need final tuning for spine, but shoot veyr well from my Osage bow, even out to 50 yards (not perfectly yet though). I think I'll be using the Zwickey tipped points from a red oak board bow I jsut finished though, so I'll drop the spine on them and save them as "back up". All arrows need final sharpenning and then a finish, but they're shooting. All's left is waiting for season.

I want to thank Venisonburger again for the excellent blade stock :)!!

Cool arrows and points Kegan. Looks like a good shape for penetration.
You might check your state DNR and see if they will be legal to hunt with. Here in NC they would not because of the "barbed" back edge.    Pat

Nice arrows, but like Pat said above, they would be illegal to hunt with in most states.

They'd be legal in VA as long as they are 7/8" wide.

Thanks guys, and thanks for watching my legallity :)! They are legal here in PA, so long as they are such and such dimensions, and in one plane (not spiraled around like those old broadheads pictured in TB vol. II I think). Another reason for having the Zwickey's as back-up.
