I have shipped by DHL before but went to ship a couple of staves that were near bow shape (not heavy) and they wanted about $60 for the cheapest method. How are you shipping wood or bows?

USPS. typically when shipping staves I just wrap 'em with shrinkwrap (like that used for wrapping palletized material), label 'em, take to post office.
I think the most I've ever paid was $30-40 but that was shipping to Canada.
when shipping bows I've always used a tube of some sort, also using USPS.

I mashed 2 post office long rectangular mailers together to ship a stave, and taped them together right in the P.O. .....it was a bit "Tommy boy" lookin', but only cost 20 bucks (boxes included) or so to ship about 300 miles.

Ive used usps and ups, usually $15-20 for the lower 48.

I just shipped a stave to Kegan in PA. It was about 70" long and weighed 10# and cost about $15 or so. I actually shipped it Priority because it was cheaper. With bows I use a thin walled PVC pipe with caps on the ends. I always ship bows Priority because fewer hands touch it during shipping. With bows I also get delivery confirmation and sometimes insurance. So far I haven't had any problems with USPS and they get lots of money from me each year.
The bow I got from Dano last week was in a PVC tube with end caps but one of the end caps was broken. The bow was fine inside thanks to bubble wrap. With insurance and priority mail, that bow cost $15.25 from Arizona to NC. Pat

Same here. Saran wrap for staves, PVC tube with lots-o-bubble-wrap for bows, USPS priority. UPS is well-known for destroying things.

USPS priority for everything and pvc or corrugated cardboard tubes with lots of puncture proof/cushioning material in the ends on both types for bows. Plastic wrap and explanations for the staves. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't know what a piece of wood wrapped in plastic is used for, go figure ;D

Another vote for USPS. Keep in mind, they have two balloon charges. One is unavoidable, the other is if the length plus circumference is over something like 84". I got caught by that one the other day, cost me an extra $7 for being 1" over that limit.

USPS for me I shipped 57lbs of 70 inch staves from GA to TX for 35$.

just kidding, the few that i have recieved all come by way uf the USPS,no problems with em either.
yup its good to hear that everyones using the USPS,my brother needs the work lol.
