Title: Tree id
Post by: Blacktail on July 21, 2008, 01:21:49 am
I need some help id-ing this tree, I dont know what it is. I would like you to keep in mind that even if it needs sinew backed, that would be ok by me.  I am just more curious to find out what kind of wood this is. This is the only photos that i have. Thanks for helping out.

Looks like Birch.

Hard to say which though, it could be Yellow Birch, which is also known as Silver Birch, Gray Birch,  and Swamp Birch.

Looks like mountain alder John.  Did it have real small cones?  Just checked the book and fairly sure its mountain alder.

mountain alder has large single tooth leaves and smooth alder has smal more uniform leaves. the leaves in your picture have the teething and shape of Silver Birch.  doesnt resemble river birch or yellow birch.
look up silver birch on google.  thats my call.- Ryan

Looks like either alder or hazelnut-hard to tell for sure without seeing fruit pics.
