Title: New bow for a buddy

My friend Cameron, the brother of the kids I gave "Sparrow Hawk" to, had an old hickory bow I gave him, one of my firsts. Well, I was just not happy with that bow at all. Just a poor bow. So I made him this one. I had it glued up for a take down with hickory backing, but the board is too narrow for the bow weight I like, and I don't have the backing anyway.

It's 68" long, 45# at 26.5", made from a red oak board with a nice deep locator grip handle. It has taken about two inches of set ( I don't blame it, it's quite narrow for the strain), and is braced about 5". It's also rather fast with my 550 grain blunt arrows. He seems to like it alot, so I'm pleased. I left it unfinished, as he enjoys sanding, staining, and finishing. I didn't mean to make the grip with such an indent, but the saber saw got away from me. But he was there as I was shaping it, so I made it to fit right :).

Thats a cool bow, nice tiller and I really like the handle :)
So have you got Cameron interested in building his next bow?

Are you done tillering this bow? You sure need to get the first foot or so on both limbs moving. This will get rid of the hing in the top limb.

Make a gizmo to check your tiller. It will be a real eye opener.

Eric- I left the inside limbs stiff, as the handle would pop off if I didn't. I'll have to make one of those gadgest though, seem like it would be a good tool to have on hand :)! The top limb is slightly longer and slightly weaker, to account for stringing (the method my friend uses a bit tough on the limbs). I don't think it's hinged though ????
