Post by: Santanasaur on July 11, 2024, 03:20:33 pm
This one draws 45# at 26” and is 58” long ntn. The stave is flowering dogwood, Cornus florida. Tips are deer antler, the handle is tooled buffalo hide, and the back is stained with iron vinegar to make the inner bark pop. 380 grams total

Sweet little bow. Really like the antler tips. Still figuring that out myself, really like how you did those.

Weylin has a great video on tip overlays. I do a few things differently now but this is where I learned https://youtu.be/AN05g5dSAxk?si=v0hVVxilFwrPWZGB

How wide is it at the fade? Does the handle bend? How wide is it towards the tip where it stops bending and gets stiff?

The handle is stiff. The limbs are a bit asymmetric so I left the bottom wider. At the fades it’s 1 1/4”  on the bottom and 1 1/8 on the top. At the base of the recurves it’s 7/8” on the bottom and 3/4” on the top.

Yeah I’ve seen weylin’s video and a few others. I just started using antler overlays. Have yet to try buffalo horn but plan on getting some and giving that a go too..

Nice bow!  It's great to see you posting your work again - I still have a few photos of your shop saved for inspiration (need to make a wobbly rasp holder like that next).

I see you are one of the "Swiftie" cult. No, I don't mean the OTHER one, Taylor Swift, I mean the Swiftwood Bows Cult!

Once you meet Weylin or handle one of his bows you are on board. Swiftie for life here! (So fun to hang with him at the Tennessee Classic, the guy is genuinely one of the best examples of our "passing it on" ethos)

Great little bow there. Gotta be a snappy little thing the way it is all set up. I wish you many years of shooting it and many more good bows off your bench!

Awesome bow in all respects.  I will have to search out some dogwood now.
