Title: Using tung oil as an arrow finish

Hi all

How well does tung oil work for finishing arrows? My preliminary tests look pretty promising for putting fletching on with duco cement and fletch tite. Is there anything I need to watch for?

I think my main concern was whether the fletching would actually stick well on a tung oil finished wood shaft.

I can’t speak for those products but tung oil is damaged and marked by water, and most adhesives tend to stick poorly to any form of oil residue .  I suggest sticking a fletching onto an oiled arrow off-cut  and seeing how you go.

Try Tru oil ,but whatever you use,scrape down to bare wood to glue anything,I’m fairly new to wood arrows but much experience at glueing and working wood ,any kind of finish prevents glue from adhering to full effect.You can either glue fletches before finishing or finish and scrape off where the fletches will go,I also like laquer and it has a harder finish when dry which might aid in less friction when released,it also drys fast.
Do I always have do that insane anti robot verification thing whenever I make of reply to a post?
