Here's one for the Meare Heath fans. This bow is mixed between a compressed version of the artifact, and an extended version of Paul Comstock's design. It's got an overall length of 72" and is 2" wide until about 8" from the tips.
I can't believe how well it shoots for such an overbuilt design. I read some archived posts suggesting such a bow would kick like a mule and have poor cast but couldn't resist experimenting. It shoots really smooth, and I think it would take a chrono to find any difference in performance over my usual layout. It's probably too much mass for a heavy wood like osage, but I've never tried it.
Got a little lazy with the "beauty shots" on this one. I had to get it packaged up and out the door. Kinda figured everyone is more interested in the profiles and full draw anyway. It's got some back-and-forth prop twist and a minor kink in the upper fade. The quirks make the braced profile and FD look a little funky; and it didn't take any string follow despite the unbraced profile. There are a few videos of this bow shooting on IG, for anyone that uses that.
They definitely look cool! I'll be building a few more of these. Thanks for looking!

Very nice, I use to make a lot of them when I first started, great design as far as i am concerned and you nailed it. :) Easy to lay out also even on a snaky stave. :)

Very nice. I love that wide-mid-limb, Meare Heath/Sudburry ish profile. They say it doesn't shoot as fast as a pyramid, but they sure are easy on the eyes. Well done. 8)

Correy, that’s a REAL bow! Hackberry is a good choice for the Meare Heath design. Just out of curiosity, did you weigh it after it was finished?
-
you once again got EVERYTHING just PERFECT (-S what stain do you use?
cheers

I'm a big fan of your recent exploration into big, long, overbuilt designs. Very much looking forward to seeing more monster bows from you. Good stuff!

Darn nice looking bow, well done. I like the design, especially for using hickory. I made a few over the years, it may not be as fast as some other designs but is durable and makes a fine hunting bow. Yours should last for years.

Love me some hackberry and you knocked this one outta the park

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated!
Simk - this one has MinWax Jacobean stain.

I love over built bows. When your bow meant survival, there was no point in building anything other than a bow that would stand up to hard use and for a long time.
Just wondering, is this an example of a bow that you would sell for $1700.00?

A durable design executed very well.Good looking bend.
