Not too long ago there seemed to be a run on hickory bows around here. They inspired me to grab a hickory stave and see what I could make. This bow is 66" ntn, and draws low 50's at 28". I did all I could to keep the moisture content low on this bow by keeping it in a box with a light bulb, around 80 degrees, 46-48% rh. I'm sure the hickory wouldn't mind being even more dry, but that's where I left it. Shoots where i look with little handshock.

That is a really nice hickory stick. Very nice reflex on the unstrung profile and perfect tiller. Looks awesome with the stain job you did. Excellent work!
-
Excellent hickory bow. :OK
-
Nice work. (SH) (SH)

This really is so well executed!

Thank you for your thoughts, much appreciated. I started out with hickory, but it so often gets pushed aside by osage. It always feels good to break out the hickory once in a while.
-
Beautiful work. Tiller is gorgeous. Where do you think the hand shock is coming from? By my eyes the tips look nice and narrow.
-
I like it.
-
I like it! Great stain job, too.
-
Thanks again! I guess I worded that wrong Ryan. I almost said no handshock, but I didn't want to be too bold, so I used the word little. It really shoots like a dream.
-
Very nice, how wide is it at the fades?
-
That´s a really beautiful bow and I guess it´s a very good shooter! Well done :)
May I ask how you did the stain job?
lonbow
-
Tradcraftsman, its 2 inches wide at fades.
lonbow, I blend black leather dye with stain in provincial color.

You might not have made a hickory bow in a while, but you haven't been neglecting your bowyering skills. Wonderful!
-
That is all around spot on. The tiller, the finish, everything.... great job
-
My oh my, I really dig it
-
Well done! Excellent tiller. Jawge

Very nice.

Beautiful bow. Deadly looking. The bow you definitely don’t want to encounter if you’re a critter walking through the woods. What have you got for an arrow rest there? I like it. It’s tiny. All you need really.
-
Great work!
-
great job on that one...I'd hunt with it for sure. :OK
-
Thank you very much!
boomhowzer, I have an old leather belt that I cut and stack a few pieces together, glued on for the arrow rest.
-
As good as it gets.
