First I want to thank everyone on this message board for all the help I've received. I spent quite a bit of time on here at this time last year to get my bearings, and then spent the past year (with frustration breaks included) silently toiling and breaking bows.
Heavily inspired by Stonehill Archery's series of short, flat, bendy handle bows. I became obsessed with the profile of those wide flat limbs with the short little static recurves steamed in. Knowing that that design would do well with the BL I had to work with, I've been focused on recreating it and am super happy that my first bow turned out the way it did. Here it is!
All heartwood black locust.
White oak tip overlays just because I wanted to try it and think it looks cool.
I'll wrap the handle at some point with something, just not sure what.
String is waxed linen.

I have built more static handles by far, but I love my bendies! You did this one proud. Very nice!

Thanks so much for all the kind words! I'm ready to keep shooting this one and start building more. Picking up more BL this weekend!

Black locust is a great wood and the potential to chrysal is the best tiller-teacher going :)
You did a fine job with this bow. The unstrung profile is nice :)
-
Hey great job man, especially on a short bow, I feel like that is double tough
-
There are a lot of folks with more successful bows under their belts than fingers on their hands that cannot boast of a bow with tiller that good. Well done, sir, well done.
-
Congratulations and welcome to the addiction.

Wow, extremely kind words! Everything I read said take it slow so that's what I did, painfully so, and I guess the results speak for themselves.
I should also say there were several broken bows of different designs before this, with each one seeming to break at a later stage of construction, building upon the one before it. This one was actually from a "B" stave that I set aside as something to use in case I screwed all the others up. And, well, I screwed the others up, and it wasn't until I decided to stop fussing over layouts and just go with my gut that I pulled this stave out and slowly went to town.

That is a great looking bow with fine tiller! Congratulations on a successful bow. I am sure you will enjoy shooting that bow. It looks like a good hunter too.
