Good morning... I thought I would share a recent bow I completed. It’s a 68” pig-nut hickory recurve that’s 50# @ 28”. The stave for this bow was gifted to me by a friend. It had been stored in his barn for over five years. I removed the bark and most of the cambium using a draw knife and a gooseneck scraper to reveal a beautiful camouflage back. The bow is 1-5/8” wide at the fades and straight tapered to 1/2” tips.
I recurves the tips using steam. I had to do three separate heat treatments. One for straightening and two to add reflex during tillering. I used a reflex form I copied from BowEd ( thanks Ed) I like how snappy these heat-treated, reflexed hickory bows can be.
The tip overlays are macasser ebony, and the handle wrap, side plate and arrow rest are made from scrap leather from an Amish saddle shop. Finish is 6 coats of Tru-oil rubbed between coats with 0000 steel wool, and a final coat of spar urethane. Thanks for looking.

gorgeous bow Will.. nicely executed.. Gut

Love it... that bow looks like a hunting bow. :OK It sure looks like it would have a smooth draw, no handshock release, and fast arrow with that profile. Well done. The grip being off to one side is cool as well.

This really is so well executed in every way. Lovely tiller.

Excellent hickory recurve, Will. Well done! :OK

Beautiful bow Will!
-
Beautiful bow Will, I can only dream of making hooks that tight without snapping the off.
-
Great bow, and it's holding a sweet unbraced profile. I bet it is snappy.
-
Thanks fellas. I steamed the recurves in and they typically don’t give me too much trouble. I keep them 1/2” thick and steam for 40 minutes. The bow has great string tension at brace and is very smooth to draw...a joy to shoot.

Will, you done that piece of Hickory justice...Excellent work
