which end do i put the point on, the fat end or the sikinny end?
-
do you mean arrow, like a wood shaft? well, if your speakin of that, i have an arrow that ended up with the skinny end forward and i added a heavy bone point to level out the arrow.
-
lol, yeah, i was in a hurry. shoot arra shafts gonna start on em this weekend. i figured that the fat end would be forward, but just checking.
-
Fat heavy end forward works well.
-
Like Mark said.
however, I've head that the plains indian tribres used the skinny end forward, and planed the back end down, leaving the nock high. But if you don't want to go to that much work, just do it the other way around.

Yep ! Fat end forward to balance the arrow FOC. That will facilitate good penetration. Frank

what do ya do about the self nock then, if ya got a real skinny arrow, sayin you dont have plastic nocks or bone.
-
you can foot the nock end ,just like you can the point end . Or what I have done a few times is drill out a piece of cane to slip over the nock end ,glue it in place , then shape it to suit ya.

yep, fat and forward. if i had one that was too thin to get a good knock outa then it was too light spined for me any way- Ryan

thanx guys. made my first self arra this weekend. came out great exept fot the fletching. kinda messed up there, but i still managed to hit a 1inch diamater sapling from 10 yards, so i call it a success. however i got 1 arra out of 20 shafts. but now i know what im looking for. thanx again for all then help.

I like to put the fat end forward if I leave it fat. I often plane down my shoot shafts to a constant diameter.
-
Yeah, gotta plane mine down too,I just make sure that I keep them a touch weight forward. They fly pretty good even without fletching. Frank
-
yeah, only prollem with mine. they are an absolute disaster without fletchings.
