Wood is black locust. First pics show ring chasing and first full brace.

That's a great result for a first bow. Much better than my first.

I added some reflex at the tips. The wood grain is very pretty in the sun. Still have to finish sanding and sealing the bow. Don't have a draw weight yet but it draws to 28".

I’m not very sharp. It took me at least 5 bows before one looked like that.
Good job.

Thanks everyone. I was very pleased with the performance of the black locust. I will be making my next few bows from this log

When did you cut that log?

I found it on a tree service wood pile so I dont know when it was cut. I think the rest of the staves need to season some more though.

That's a good find! So did you rough out the bow and then let it season for a couple weeks

No i pretty much started working on the bow right away bc i had some time off work to make the bow. It definitely should have been seasoned a little more though and the bow took some set. Im going to let the rest of the staves season properly. I got 8 staves from the log.
