Has anyone ever heat treated with an iron?

Someone mentioned this way back. I tried it but the bow I was working on had a few roller coasters and the iron was hit and miss. Unless the bow is flat or at least convex you can't get an even treat. I think the iron is hot enough though.  It would take some experimenting to sort it all out and it may or may not work.

I doubt it gets hot enough.

If you put it on "cotton" it will char wood. Slow but it will. I would try one as a last resort somewhere after a bonfire :)

You can buy a decent heat gun(Wagner) for about $30 but don't buy a cheap one from Harbor Freight.

I even made a caul out of tubing. Put a heat gun into he end . Nope the caul was used for awhile but the heat gun went back to the belly. 🧐 Arvin
