Title: Timing of adding in recurve

When is the best time in the build to recurve the tips of a flat bow? Once floor tillered, once long string tillered, or once you’re done your final tiller? Or
some other time altogether? Thanks in advance.

I recurve after first brace. At first brace the tips have been thinned for better heat penetration and you can adjust string alignment and then recurve the tips making sure the tips line up well.

Not meaning to hijack your post. In conjunction to your question, can you heat bend a tip more than once?

I've reheated a couple of times to make corrections after bending the recurves.

I have had no luck bending once im at final thickness, they always seem to lift a splinter that needs ground down. I do it when the stave is floor tillered and leave the tips 1/2" thick and no less than 1 inch wide. That allows for material to remove when splinters pop.

Pat, id love to know how you and others get away with how you do it.

Trial and error over 30+ years of building wood bows and listening and following what has worked for others.
